For six weeks, until mid November, I have the rare opportunity and privilege of exhibiting my work in the display windows of the Downing Centre in Sydney. I will be exhibiting 5 paintings, including three large pieces showing my latest studies of native flora. 3rd October – 13th November 2008 ‘To survive in an uncompromising environment, Australia plants have evolved to cope with extreme heat, drought and fire. Not only are the flowers hardy and long-lasting, but their seeds are protected by tough pods and cones. Some even need fire or the powerful beaks of cockatoos to release their seeds. It is these unique pods that have inspired my latest work – their sculptural structures and dry colours evoke Australia’s incomparable, harsh, but beautiful landscape’. |
